The Program

What is special about the BMC program and curicullum?

bat mitzva 1.jpg

The Bat Mitzva Club is a one of a kind experience for girls ages 11-13, regardless of synagogue affiliation, to come together once a week to celebrate and learn what is means to become a Bat Mitzvah. Club activities include; interactive games, discussions, arts and crafts, community projects, and field trips.

We will also work with each girl individually and prepare her for her personal Bat Mitzvah ceremony.

Frequent Q&A

What's the point of a Bat Mitzvah anyway?
Are you all caught up with the theme, the clothing and all the party favors but clueless about the meaning?? Do you think a Bat Mitzvah ends or begins with your party? Join the Bat Mitzvah club and find out. Here girls learn about Judaism, meet other Jewish girls the same age and have loads of fun!

Will I fit in?
If you like activities, friends, food and conversation, you'll definitely fit right in!

What will we actually learn and discuss, what's the curriculum?

The girls learn about Jewish women in our history, we learn her story, what lessons we can learn from her and most importantly how we can apply it to our lives today. The girls explore, discover and discuss what it means to become a Bat Mitzvah and what their responsibilities are as a Bat mitzvah girl. The girls then do an exciting craft that connects to the woman or topic they just learned about it.

Every girl learns the portion of the Torah that is connected to their bat mitzva birthday. They explore, research and connect to the specific sections in their portion that they are inspired by.

Many discussions and hands on activities delve into the meaning of becoming bat mitzva, the beauty of a Jewish woman and girl inside and out, the true meaning of self esteem, relating to peers and the like.

All questions and comments are welcomed and add spice and spirit to the classes.

Are there any special outings or trips?
We have special trips and get togethers a few times a year, together with all the girls from the other JRCC branches Bat Mitzva Clubs! Including a Chanukah Limo-hop!, one-of-a-kind Shabbaton sleep-over, and end-of-year unique gala dinner - and more!

Will there be a formal celebration for my Bat Mitzva?

On the day of your Bat Mitzva we will get together for a special, meaningful celebration with your family and friends. In addition, the club will round off the year with a beautiful dinner and presentation, in which all of our students will have a chance to speak, and invite family and friends. Students are welcome to use this celebration as their official Bat Mitzva celebration.

Share ideas, friendship and fun!

The Bat Mitzvah club shows girls why a Bat Mitzvah is much more than a party. Learn what it really means to be a Bat Mitzvah in the modern world. Get to know your Jewish self through art, creative writing and community outreach. Discuss hot topics. Share you interests, goals, hopes and dreams. Record your thoughts and ideas in your very own club journal. Express yourself!

Give yourself a Bat Mitzvah gift
Join the Bat Mitzvah club and give yourself the best gifts of all: Self confidence, Jewish pride, and lasting friendships. These are the Bat Mitzvah gifts that last a lifetime. Because a Bat Mitzvah is not really about the party it's about you.
